Time-Integration Schemes for the Finite Element Dynamic Signorini Problem
نویسندگان
چکیده
The discretization of the dynamic Signorini problem with finite elements in space and a time-stepping scheme is not straightforward. Consequently a large variety of methods for this problem have been designed over the last two decades. Up to date, no systematic comparison of such methods has been performed. The aim of the present work is to classify and compare them. For each method, we discuss the presence of spurious oscillations and the energy conservation. For explicit approaches, the stability condition on the time step is also discussed. Numerical simulations on two 1D benchmark problems with analytical solutions illustrate the properties of the different methods. Most of the discretizations considered herein can be found in the literature, but the semi-explicit modified mass method is new and features, in our opinion, several attractive properties. The Effects of Newmark Method Parameters on Errors in Dynamic Extended Finite Element Method Using Response Surface Method
The Newmark method is an effective method for numerical time integration in dynamic problems. The results of Newmark method are function of its parameters (β, γ and ∆t). In this paper, a stationary mode I dynamic crack problem is coded in extended finite element method )XFEM( framework in Matlab software and results are verified with analytical solution. This paper focuses on effects of main pa...
متن کاملDynamic Fracture Analysis Using an Uncoupled Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Finite Element Formulation
This paper deals with the implementation of an efficient Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the three dimensional finite element modeling of mode I self-similar dynamic fracture process. Contrary to the remeshing technique, the presented algorithm can continuously advance the crack with the one mesh topology. The uncoupled approach is employed to treat the equations. So, each t...
متن کاملAxisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Formulation for Wave Propagation in Unbounded Layered Media
Wave propagation in unbounded layered media with a new formulation of Axisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (AXI-SBFEM) is derived. Dividing the general three-dimensional unbounded domain into a number of independent two-dimensional ones, the problem could be solved by a significant reduction in required storage and computational time. The equations of the corresponding Axisymmetri...
متن کاملA numerical study on continuous space-time Finite Element Methods for dynamic Signorini problems
Space-time nite element methods for dynamic Signorini problems are discussed in this article. The discretization scheme is based on a mixed space-time formulation of the continuous problem, where the Lagrange multipliers represent the contact stress. To construct the trial space for the displacement and the velocity, we use piecewise polynomial and globally continuous basis functions in space a...
متن کاملStudies in Numerical Stability of Explicit Contact-impact Algorithm to the Finite Element Solution of Wave Propagation Problems
In dynamic transient analysis, recent comprehensive studies have shown that using mass penalty together with standard stiffness penalty, the so-called bipenalty technique, preserves the critical time step in conditionally stable time integration schemes. In this paper, the bipenalty approach is applied in the explicit contact-impact algorithm based on the pre-discretization penalty formulation....
